Join us for a Day of Prayer at Derby Cathedral
The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Revd & Rt Hon Justin Welby, is to visit Derby Cathedral during a special day of Prayer and we invite you to join us.
This special day of prayer is a designated time set aside for us to come together in prayer and meditation, to seek spiritual guidance, strength, and connection with God. It is a time to reflect on our faith, seek forgiveness, offer gratitude, and bring forth intentions and requests for help or healing.
There will be five prayer stations placed inside the Cathedral during the day from 09:30 – 16:30, followed by a Service of Prayer to welcome the Archbishop at 16:30.
The prayer stations include:
Challenging injustice
Around the world, heatwaves, wildfires, droughts, and floods are becoming more frequent and severe, wrecking lives, homes and livelihoods. It’s the poorest, who have done the least to cause the climate crisis, who are paying the greatest price. Poverty and a deepening debt crisis means poorer countries are struggling to respond. Come and write a beacon of hope prayer with us which is a prayer for justice.
Deepening Relationships with God
Jesus said ‘For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them’. Take time to just sit and be with God. Listen to the sounds of God’s creations. If you’ve never prayed before there will be resources available to help you.
Making new disciples
Just like a seed, our faith is full of amazing wonders. But in order to see these wonders and see it in its fullness, we have to nurture our faith. Planting a new seed is what we do when we begin our journey of faith. As we nurture our faith, so it begins to grow and get stronger and deeper. So, as we plant a sunflower seed and water it and tend to it, we can see it grow. Come and plant a seed with us!
Serving our local contexts
The community we serve has many different people, we’re all walking different paths, and we are all in various places in our journey. Take time to read the stories of different lives and think about your own journey with God and those we care about. How can we draw closer to God on that journey? Write a prayer on one of our footprints and add it to the journey around the cathedral.
Pray with a Priest
A time for quiet 1:1 prayer, available on a drop in basis.
Praying with others who are in need or distress is something that can be done by anyone at any time and anywhere. If you are in need of someone to pray with and for you, there will be people here who are on hand to do so.
Refreshments will be served from 10:00 – 16:00.
This is a family friendly day of prayer, children are welcome.
