Description

Derby’s most exciting night of poetry returns for its 9th year! Come along and see who will be crowned this year’s Derby Poetry Festival slam champion.

Derby Poetry Festival presents the annual performance poetry slam, hosted by Derby Museums.

Often referred to simply as ‘slam’, a poetry slam is a competitive form of poetry where participants write on any topic they chose and are scored on their writing and performance as well as their ability to keep to a set time limit, with one winner walking away with the title.

Although a competition, sometimes you’ll hear the mantra “the point is not the points, the point is the poetry”. Slam brings out raw and emotional responses to relevant topics, to both the writer and the current social situation. Expect an emotive evening filled with passion, enthusiasm and joy.
