Description
REMEMBER THE PAST - FIGHT FOR THE FUTURE...
This is the BIG day in Derby's - and the whole of Britain's - trade union history... commemorating the struggle between the Silk Mill workers and oppressive and superexploitative employers in the 19th Century.
Now commemorated as the earliest beginnings of trades unionism, we celebrate it with a lively and tuneful procession, with a laying of a memorial chaplet of red, white an green flowers and foliage (the colours adopted by the workers), with rousing, inspiring (and short) speeches, with live bands and community stalls - and plenty to eat and drink at a family festival.
