Description
An afternoon of music inspired by Museums, old and new
Concert in partnership with Sinfonia Viva
The Museum of Making opened in Derby’s historic Silk Mill in 2021, exploring 300 years of creativity and innovation in the city. We’re thrilled to be partnering with Sinfonia Viva to launch this new series of Friday afternoon concerts in the Museum, a perfect way to end your week.
To celebrate the new partnership, Sinfonia Viva oboeist Maddy Aldis-Evans has written a brand-new piece inspired by one of the Museum of Making’s standout exhibits – its famous 18th century loom.
Maddy’s piece is paired in this afternoon concert with Mussorgky’s famous and hugely popular Pictures at an Exhibition, arranged for wind quintet. Mussorgsky created the piece after visiting an exhibition of works by the architect and artist Viktor Hartmann, with each movement representing one of the drawings.
In this performance our musicians move through this imaginary art gallery, drawing out the beauty and intrigue of the music in the wonderful, spacious setting of the Museum.
Why not combine this performance with a day out at the Museum of Making, and perhaps some lunch or a delicious cake at the Museum’s River Kitchen?
The music
Maddy Aldis-Evans – New Work (World Premiere)
Mussorgsky (arr. Linckelmann) – Pictures at an Exhibition
The artists
Sinfonia Viva Wind Quintet
Suitable for all, this concert runs for approximately 50 minutes with no interval.
