Description

Join cavalry re-enactor Alan Larsen in the Soldiers Story Gallery and learn about life in the dragoons in the early 1700s.

The Royal Lancers can trace their roots back to 1689 when Colonel James Wynne raised a regiment of dragoons to support the newly crowned King William of Orange against James II. Wynne’s Dragoons later became the 5th (Royal Irish) Lancers. 25 years later in 1715 his younger brother Major General Owen Wynne also raised a regiment to oppose the Jacobite Rebellion of 1715. They later became the 9th Dragoons.

During the 1715 Rebellion the Jacobite army communicated in secret by using cypher wheels. Come along and make your own cypher wheel and unlock a secret code to gain a reward.

Drop-in session, suitable for ages 6+.
