Presented as part of Children’s Art Week, join Derbyshire illustrator and mental health advocate Kate Smith at Derby Museum and Art Gallery as she shares a number of techniques, hints, tricks and tips to improve your drawing and art skills using pieces from Derby Museums collections for inspiration. Did you know the strength of your pencil can change the look of your artwork? Or the difference between sketching and doodling? And how long can a continuous line drawing be? Learn all this and more with Kate Smith.

Suitable for families with children 8+.
All children must be accompanied by an adult.
About Kate Smith
Kate Smith is an award-winning illustrator, specialising for many years in children’s illustration and toy design. Following a series of unforeseen stressful events in Kate’s life her mental health suffered. At this time Kate started to use her creativity to express and deal with her feelings and anxieties.
Kate is an advocate of mental health awareness and passionately believes that mental health can be improved, supported, assisted, lived with using art.
At the beginning of 2022 Kate was awarded funding from Arts Council England as part of the Developing Your Creative Practice Program to explore her creative style, develop her fine art and raise awareness of mental health issues through sharing her art and story.
Participants will be able to view some of Kate’s work as part of the workshop.
