Description

For 12 - 16 Year Olds

Come and join us for an exciting workshop exploring sound and drawing! Participants will engage in a listening exercise and produce a series of drawings in response that explore ideas of identity, place and memory.

We’ll start the workshop with collaboration and discussion around music as a group, then get stuck in with making some drawings and experimental forms of storytelling.

For our session please bring with you piece of music or audio that you find interesting, It can be anything! (please send a youtube link in advance to meridithd@derbyquad.co.uk)

PLEASE NOTE: You will be sharing your chosen audio with the group so all clips must be suitable for under 18s.

Extend your visit to QUAD with a screening in the cinema after your workshop! Check out what’s on and book your tickets here https://www.derbyquad.co.uk/whats-on/cinema

Booking for this workshop is essential by Friday 30th December 2022

*If you are eligible for free school meals, please contact our Education Curator to discuss how we can support you attending this day of workshops: daisy.lloyd@derbyquad.co.uk

About the Artist

Ashley Holmes is an artist and DJ based in Sheffield. His recent work combines sound, installation and ongoing collaborative projects

His research is informed by an interest in the value and potential of music as a framework that allows us to think relationally within broader social, cultural, and political discourses and reimagine notions of listening, storytelling, collaboration, ownership, and belonging.

Ashley currently hosts Tough Matter, a monthly broadcast on NTS Radio, and is a resident on Sheffield based online station Mondo Radio. He also facilitates Open Deck - a series of gatherings giving space to collectively listen and hold discursive space around relationships to music, sound, memory and oral histories.
