Description

The University of Derby Saturday Club is excited to run the subject strand Society&Change and is inviting young people from Derby/Derbyshire who have interest in creative and artistic practice to explore themes such as wellbeing, city spaces, youth voice, freedom, protest and justice, race and racism, politics, education, creativity, resilience, vibrancy, green and growth.

What does it mean to be a citizen of the world? What changes do you want to see happen in Derby? Being a member of this club means that you will be at the centre of everything that it does, ensuring that you have the best time whilst being hands on as you make, curate, design, build, explore and develop your skills and have a platform for your voice. You will do this under the guidance of a fantastic range of guest practitioners and artists.

We will spend time finding your voice and developing a platform for self and collective expression. You will be encouraged to engage with the humanities in both traditional and innovative ways while working with our cultural and creative industry partners. Club members will develop a range of new skills and interests, and will support young people to express themselves. The Club is dedicated to providing young people living in Derby/Derbyshire, with a programme packed with opportunities, activities and events, just so that you can get involved!

The Club also encourages individuals to think creatively, and to considering your place in the world and more locally, while working collaboratively, making friends and having a really fun time. It is all about how we can work together for brighter futures, recognising that you are the future leaders for society who can bring change!

Sessions will predominantly take place at Artcore Gallery, Derby City Centre and Community Corner, Pride Park Stadium and we will also include visits to local archives, green spaces, and museums and to the University of Derby.

Club members also take part in national events including Masterclasses with leading industry professionals and the Summer Show, where Saturday Clubs nationwide exhibit their work in a public exhibition – all for free!
