Christmas Lights Switch On & Festive Derby Opening

Come into the city as we celebrate the start of Festive Derby

Join us in Derby City Centre, as we switch on Derby’s Christmas Lights and get Festive Derby open! Don't miss out on the opening of The Cathedral Quarter Ice Rink and Nordic Bar on Derby Market Place.

Before the switch on takes place you can be one of the first to take to the Cathedral Quarter ice rink, with skating available from 5pm. The festivities begin with the main stage show, hosted by Smooth Radio, taking place outside Riverside Chambers, across the road from QUAD and the Council House, starting at 5pm. The show will culminate with the official Christmas Lights Switch On at 6:30pm, illuminating the city for the festive season.

You will see lantern makers from across the city come together as apart of the Season of Light Lantern Parade from 5pm, which includes local primary schools and members from various community groups who will proudly parade with the sustainable lanterns that they have made. 

Be sure to catch the Christmas vibes at the Sadler Gate Christmas Night Market whilst you're here! Enjoy 50+ artisans, tasty festive treats, amazing entertainment and a warm indie biz welcome from the Sadler Gate community. From 5pm.
