Derby Season of Light 2023 Finale Event - A spectacle of colour and culture!

Join us in making the Derby Lantern Parade a dazzling spectacle, as families, children, and young people from schools, Derby College and the community groups unite to light up the night with vibrant lanterns.

Experience the magic of diverse performances, from the mesmerizing Chinese Dragon dance to the thunderous beats of the Dhol drum, to colourful world of Bollywood to high-energy Bhangra dances.

Bring your own lantern (no glass lanterns or real flames will be allowed) or make your own lantern at one of our workshops and join us with your friends and families in this spectacular display and have fun!

It's our city, our parade, our celebration...let's make it a day to remember!

ALL WELCOME!

Parade Route: 

3.30pm

Parade participants start to arrive at St. Peter's Cross,  St. Peter’s Street, Derby, DE1 1SN and report to one of the parade coordinators in yellow Surtal Arts T-Shirts.  Everyone lines up in the parade.

4pm

Derby Lantern Parade starts moving from St Peter's Cross, led by Dhol drumming and Chinese Dragon Dance, following straight behind them all our school pupils, community groups and members of the public who will triumphantly hold aloft the colourful lanterns that they have made in workshops across the city.  Giant stilt walkers entertain everyone in the parade.  

​4.50pm 

The parade will wind its way and arrive at the St Peter's Hilton Garden where the Parade finishes.

Dragon dancers, Dhol drummers and the Bollywood dancers go to the Festive Derby stage (overseen by Derby Live) to perform the finale of Derby Lantern Parade.  The stage will be infront of Derby City Council Building, Corporation Street, Derby DE1 2FS
