Darley Park

We start our itinerary at scenic Darley Park within walking distance of Derby city centre. This historic parkland is home to Britain's largest collection of Hydrangeas and the third largest in the world. As well as a delightful butterfly garden, the park is perfect for scenic walks and has great views of the River Derwent and the nearby Derby Silk Mill, the site of the world's first factory built in 1721. If you fancy a spot of outdoor sport, you can book a tennis court for your visit here.

Markeaton Park

Next we head to Markeaton Park, one of the East Midland's most popular open spaces with over one million visitors each year. The park has many features that mark this history: ancient veteran trees, historic lost roads, old arable field patterns, the 18th century park and buildings and the remains of a Second World War army camp. Activities here include walking, cycling, pitch and putt, rowing boats and pedalos, fishing and sports courts as well as a Craft Village with shops and stalls for refreshments.

Kedleston Country House

As you leave Markeaton Park, head up Kedleston Road towards Kedleston Hall, a National Trust-managed site on the outskirts of Derby. After an active morning, why not call into Kedleston Country House for a bite to eat and recharge for the next leg of your journey.  Why not tuck into roasted lamb rump in red wine sauce or ribeye of beef with Waldorf salad and new potatoes?

Kedleston Hall

After a spot of lunch, you head over the road from Kedleston Country House to Kedleston Hall. The National Trust property is one of Derby's hidden gems and contains acres of rich woodland. The historic house is the seat of the Curzon family, including the ancestral home of former Viceroy of India, Lord Nathaniel Curzon. A wonder of Palladian and Neo-Classical architecture, the house is well worth a visit.
