Description
Sit on a glowing crescent moon, lie beneath a giant rotating mobile, listen to lullabies and watch a bedtime story told in British Sign Language.
A year-long, citywide project by murmuration arts, bringing families in Derby together.
Nightlight Lullabies explores the universal experience of parenting and how we soothe our babies to sleep. A sound, light and performance installation inspired by research and creative workshops with Derbian parents, including the involvement of deaf communities through collaborations with the Royal School for the Deaf, D-Youth Hub, and Action Deafness.
The installation will be exhibited in the World Collections Gallery, showing works including:
- Watch The Signing Mother: A Visual Vernacular for Derby, screened within the giant Bedside Lamp
- Listen to A Lullaby For Derby, sitting on the illuminated Crescent Moon
- Cosy up under the Giant Mobile and listen to the sounds of Derby parents’ bedtime wishes and lullabies
- Watch Parent Signs, a series of vlogs exploring the rich, lived experiences of becoming a parent in the Derbian Deaf community
Nightlight Lullabies Derby is created and produced by Murmuration Arts. Made possible by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and Arts Council England. In partnership with Derby Museums, The Royal School For The Deaf Derby and Derby Festé. Supported by D-Youth Hub, Action Deafness and Family Hub Derby.
