Mozart's Oboe Concerto
Mozart’s only Oboe Concerto has an unusual history. It was lost for more than 100 years and rediscovered in 1920 in Salzburg. But there’s nothing forgettable about this music. Exuberant and fresh, it has a theatrical energy that will make you feel like you’re taking your seat for a night at the opera – or being carried away on a fresh Summer breeze.
Who better to perform it than Nicholas Daniel OBE, one of Britain’s best-known oboists, in his first concert with Sinfonia Viva. Nicholas also conducts the rest of the programme, featuring two works he is known for championing: Joseph Bologne’s upbeat Symphony No. 2 in D Major and Hannah Kendall’s striking …I May Turn To Salt, performed here for only the second time in the UK.
The evening culminates with Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for Violin, Viola and Orchestra, with soloists Sophie Rosa (violin) and Wenhan Jiang (viola). Described by Gramophone Magazine as “an iconic work for many Mozart lovers,” its vivacious finale is guaranteed to send you home with a spring in your step.
