Description
Learn the skills to make a beautiful gingham dress (with pockets!)
During this workshop, sustainable textile artist Abigail Wastie will guide you through the simple construction, sewing and fitting methods to create a bespoke gathered dress that is personalised to your measurements.
Each attendee will receive:
- A paper copy of Sarah Kristen’s Chamomile dress pattern
- 3 meters of organic cotton gingham fabric*
- Co-ordinating organic cotton thread
- Indie label to personalise your garment
- Use of the Museum of Makings studio and specialist sewing equipment
When does this course take place?
This is a weekend course running on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 June (10am-3pm) at Derby’s Museum of Making.
Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for intermediate sewers or developing beginners.
The course is limited to a maximum of six people to ensure participants are fully supported.
Additional information
*Abigail always sources fabrics for workshops with style, sustainability and comfort in mind. Abigail will order the black small gingham fabric in the image shown, but if out of stock she will contact all the students to offer similar alternatives. If you would like a different colour, please contact us at info@derbymuseums.org, other colours are available if ordered in advance of the workshop.
Lunch is available to purchase from The River Kitchen at the Museum of Making or various eateries and shops in the city centre.

Booking is essential. Due to the bespoke nature of this workshop, refunds are not available.
