Description
As part of ‘The year of Joseph Wright’ Derby Museums invites you to a series of specially curated talks about the life and work of Joseph Wright, exploring new and ongoing research from leading professionals across the country.
Lucy Bamford, Senior Curator of Art for Derby Museums, kicks-off our series of talks with an introduction to Joseph Wright and an exploration of his relationship with his hometown.
The nickname ‘Wright of Derby’ appears to have been bestowed on him at an early stage in his career, partly in recognition of the fact that he lived and worked in in Derby for much of his life. But how much of this was through choice? Was this connection unique? And how did it shape his career and the reception of his work? These are just some of the questions this talk addresses, shining a light on the man himself as it does so.
This talk is presented as part of Joseph Wright Rediscovered: a series of talks organised by Derby Museums and the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art.
Suitable for Adults (18+). Booking essential. Limited places.
