Dancing Through Time want to hear from you!

Did you spend the 60s, 70s, & 80s experiencing Derby’s unique social culture?
Did you attend some of the best gigs & DJ nights of the eras?
Have any photographs, artefacts, ticket stubs or night-out-garms of the time that could be dug out those forgotten drawers?

QUAD/FORMAT is thrilled to present ‘Dancing Through Time – Were you there?’ in Gallery 1, showcasing the remarkable contributions so far from our Dancing Through Time social archive. This exhibition aims to capture the feeling of Derby’s social & cultural heritage and celebrate a Derby full of music, fashion & movement.

We will be hosting several community-engaged activities in QUAD further information will be on our website and social media.

We have engaged with various community groups across Derby/shire, collecting memories and objects from people who were there and educating younger generations in the importance of securing these memories for future learning since this project started and had some fascinating additions to our archive depicting the rich and significant heritage of Derby’s cultural scene of the 1960s and 70s. We are looking forward to receiving more and all contributions will be added to our online archive and displayed in the Dancing Through Time exhibition at FORMAT Festival 2025.

Dancing Through Time is a project that celebrates the clubs, venues and music scenes in the city of Derby in the 60s & 70s. Through crowd-sourced artefacts, photographs and memorabilia, we are creating an archive dedicated to the sounds and stories of Derby’s rich social scene. ⁠ It is a project by QUAD/FORMAT funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
