Description

This Summer, Derby Cathedral invites visitors to experience Brick by Brick – Building a Solid Foundation, a unique art installation and festival highlighting environmental sustainability through creativity and community engagement, using LEGO bricks.

At the heart of the festival is a first-of-its-kind, model of Derby Cathedral and the surrounding city centre, crafted entirely from LEGO bricks by renowned artist Brick This, showcasing local landmarks and businesses.

Public Admission – General Opening
Running from Friday 25th July to Thursday 21st August 2025, the event will be open during Cathedral hours (usually 9am - 5pm). Check our website and social media for opening restrictions and service times.

Entry to the Cathedral during the event will be free, with a suggested donation of £3 per person, raising vital funds towards the Cathedral’s goal of reaching Carbon Neutrality. Your generous donations ensure that Derby Cathedral can continue hosting events that unite our community, both now and in the future.

Pre-School Zone
For the under 5’s we have a specific area to allow them to play and create, using Duplo and soft blocks.

Cosy Corner
Construct at the Cathedral! play, build, create with us, in this specially crafted area. There’s something for all ages.
Brought to you by cosy foundation.

SEN quiet mornings
Thursday mornings 09:30 – 10:30
For those with additional sensory needs, noise will be kept to a minimum and capacity numbers will be lower, to ensure a calmer experience.

Civic Curiosity E-Bikes
The University of Derby Civic Curiosity eBikes™ will be at the festival. The eBikes are an innovative engagement tool, designed to spark curiosity. Each bike features brightly coloured illustrations from local artist Carla Dee and a bespoke curiosity cabinet designed by midlands-based artist Harry Freeston which can be unfolded to reveal compartments filled with items that will encourage you to create, explore and be curious about the world around you.
