Description

Human Explorations is a collection of large charcoal drawings and monotypes exploring human emotions and mythological themes produced over the past five years by one of Britain’s foremost figurative artists.

Alison Lambert’s work is characterised by physicality and spontaneity. Lambert’s drawings use a collage technique, allowing her to ‘find’ the image she is searching for by layering and tearing her paper and re- drawing areas that don’t feel right. For Lambert, the process is long and arduous yet exciting as it features an element of chance and accident, requiring an intuitive dialogue with the works as they progress.

Gallery 1 will feature a series of large human heads which explore human types, feelings and emotions, reflecting on our living selves. These drawings are made without models, relying only on photographic references at the start, which are then discarded as the heads progress. The process becomes a deeply intense dialogue with the artist, with much tearing off and re-drawing.

Gallery 2 will show a series of drawings and monotypes with a mythological theme, including humans, horses and minotaurs, all suggestive of mythological events taking place with within an imaginary space.
