On the site of what is largely considered to be the world’s first factory, Derby’s iconic Silk Mill offers a stunning industrial backdrop on the banks of the River Derwent. With a treasure trove of objects displayed the museum invites your guests to explore, view and create their own journey through 300 years of making.
Premier Meeting Rooms – The River Room and The Loom Room
Our premier meeting rooms are situated on the first and second floor of The Museum of Making. Both rooms include a large screen that can be directly connected to your device via our HDMI cable, video conferencing facilities via zoom, a bean-to-cup hot drinks machine, flipcharts and wonderful views of the River Derwent and the Cathedral Green. The original brickwork contrasted with the views offers something a little different to the average corporate setting.

The Italian Mill
The Italian Mill can be arranged in a variety of layouts such as theatre style or cabaret. Offering a location to host a multitude of events from networking breakfasts, conferences, to evening events such as award evening and charity galas. The hire of the mill includes use of AV, such as our twin screens and projectors, our handheld and headset microphones and our Bluetooth speakers. The Italian Mill also houses our copper backed bar that can be opened post conference and will be fully staffed throughout events. Our brand new self-serve hot beverage station is also available for teas and coffees throughout the day.

The Civic Hall
The Civic Hall houses the main entrance and the River Kitchen Café during museum opening hours and is the perfect space for a breakfast networking meeting or as a grand entrance for arrival drinks for any evening events. The main staircase provides a fantastic group photo opportunity, with the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engine suspended overhead.
