Description
As part of ‘The year of Joseph Wright’ Derby Museums invites you to a series of specially curated talks about the life and work of Joseph Wright, exploring new and ongoing research from leading professionals across the country.
Joseph Wright spent almost two years on the Continent at a critical stage in his career, yet it remains the least known period of his life.
Reconstructing the art world of Rome in the 1770s this talk will give new contexts to Wright’s time in Italy. Using the evidence of Wright’s Italian drawings and those of his travelling companion John Downman, this talk will explore questions of collaboration and influence in Wright’s Italian work.
This talk is presented as part of Joseph Wright Rediscovered: a series of talks organised by Derby Museums and the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art.
Suitable for Adults (18+). Booking essential. Limited places.
