Description

Looking for things to do this half term?

Why not come along and make eco-friendly lanterns using biodegradable materials such as willow, wet tissue paper and bamboo.

Our Lantern Workshops are taking place at a number of venues across the city. Simply choose your preferred location and enjoy creating your own lantern with guidance from our expert artist.

At selected venues, you will have the opportunity to make culturally themed lanterns, including Diwali lanterns at the Indian Community Centre and Chinese Moon Festival-inspired lanterns at the Chinese Community Centre. You'll also hear the fascinating stories and traditions behind these lantern-making celebrations.

This year's Lantern Parade theme is Heroes. Think about who or what you consider to be your hero. It could be a personal role model, a local legend, a superhero, a meaningful object or a symbol. Please note that political or social belief statements will not be permitted. Our artist will help you develop your idea and incorporate it into a unique lantern design.

Workshops are open to everyone. Children under 7 must be accompanied by an adult.

A limited number of FREE tickets are available for pensioners, full-time students, unpaid carers and people receiving benefits. Proof of eligibility will be required on the day.

Please choose your venue and book your place online via the Surtal Arts website.
