Description
Eco-Friendly River Cruises return from 5 April 2025!
Hop aboard Outram, Derby’s solar-powered electric boat, for a relaxing 45-minute return cruise from near the Museum of Making to Darley Abbey. Glide through Darley Park and Chester Green along one of the UK’s most biodiverse urban rivers.
With a mix of indoor and outdoor seating, onboard café and sustainable gift shop, the experience is both comfortable and eco-conscious. Children can enjoy interactive STEM demos, activity packs and toys.
An engaging audio commentary by Sir David Suchet brings the river’s rich history to life.

How to find us
The boat leaves from Phoenix Green which can be accessed from the Museum of Making. From the Museum of Making cross the bridge and turn left. you will see the boat located under the next bridge. The nearest car park is the Phoenix Street Car Park (DE1 2ER). To access the boarding platform from this location you will need to use the pedestrian gate onto Stuart Street. Cross over and turn right. You will see a footpath on your left that cuts through to the river, take this path and turn right. You will see the boat located under the next bridge.
Please be aware that the next stage of flood protection works in Derby will include the removal of the pedestrian river crossing by the Museum of Making on 12th August 2025. A safe path through the works has been agreed so if you have booked a sailing AFTER this date, please wait on the north pavement on Exeter Bridge (opposite the Royal Standard pub) and you will be collected 10 minutes before sailing time by one of our cabin crew.
