Join experts Trevor Griffin and Sarah Peasgood for a day dedicated to the art of Paper Theatre, from illustrated talks to practical making, and a chance to visit ‘The Tiny World of Toy Theatre’ at Pickford’s House.

The Tiny World of Toy Theatres” – Trevor Griffin

Presentation featuring short films that provides the stories behind the Derby Museum Toy Theatre collections, telling the history of Toy theatre in England showing how it was created, performed and influenced well known people, including the great variety of Toy Theatres produced in other countries, ends with his animation of the last scene of the classic Webb’s “Miller and his Men” set to the original music by Henry Bishop.

Trevor discovered Toy Theatre as an infant and performed it as a teenager. He has published his own theatres and plays since 1975 including new issues of original material from Skelt and Webb. He is a volunteer at Derby Museum and chair of the newly formed Toy Theatre Trust.]

“Making and Performing Paper Theatre“– Sarah Peasgood

Inspirational talk providing an insight into the creative work of ‘Sarah’s Paper Theatre’, using examples from her own shows. From the art of comic strips to the magic of fairy tales and historical music hall shows, sharing tips from story adaptation, practical techniques through to staging a successful performance on the small stage.

Sarah is a maker-performer of Paper & Toy theatre, specializing in live narration with atmospheric lighting, sound and musical effects. Driven by a love of theatre and keeping this genre alive through performances, talks and workshops. She is council member of The British Puppet & Model Theatre Guild, Pollocks Toy Museum Trust, supports Derby Toy Theatre Museum Trust.

Presented by The British Puppet Theatre & Model Guild in partnership with Derby Museums, inspired y The Tiny World of Toy Theatre.
