Description
The field of archaeology has inspired some of the all-time most popular films, television series, and video games. But where does this imagination come from? Where do creators of popular media draw their inspirations? How do these fantasies of archaeology compare to the real thing?
In this talk, Christopher Lowman will discuss some of the history behind what most people imagine archaeology to be. Subjects will range from fashion to architecture, “Egyptomania” to mummy movies and even roller coasters, and of course fictional heroes (or antiheroes) like Indiana Jones and Lara Croft. Together, each of these exemplify why archaeology has become such an enduring source of fascination in the modern world.
