The Ram Comedy Club is back at Derby Theatre under our new name, Hitbox Comedy, bringing you a massive Saturday night of live stand-up.

Ricky Balshaw (Headliner)

At the top of the bill is Ricky Balshaw, a powerhouse joke-smith, BBC New Comedy Award semi-finalist, and winner of Best New Act at the Midlands Comedy Awards. Born with cerebral palsy, Ricky spent much of his early life dominating international sports, securing a silver medal in dressage at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games and later working as a presenter for Channel 4’s Paralympic coverage. Now he has swapped the saddle for the stage to become one of the most exciting, fearless acts on the UK circuit. Pulling audiences into a joyfully dark world of self-deprecating comedy, Ricky cuts right through inspirational clichés with upfront, razor-sharp storytelling.

Michael McKenzie (Opener)

Opening the show is Michael McKenzie, a Derby-based stand-up and trainee doctor. Since reaching the finals of the BBC New Comedy Awards and earning a nomination for Student Comedian of the Year, Michael has made a name for himself across the UK circuit with his warm stage presence and tightly written, dark-edged material.

Lovdev Barpaga (Host/MC)

Guiding you through the evening is Lovdev Barpaga. The former UK Pun Champion has an effortless, completely unique charm that wins rooms over immediately, delivering old-school, feel-good comedy with modern timing.

Kate Robb & Sean Payne (Support)

Rounding out the line-up are two excellent rising voices from the Midlands circuit. Kate Robb is a Funny Women Awards Semi-Finalist whose sarcastic, honest takes on family life and motherhood have earned her a reputation as “definitely one to watch”. Joining her is local comic Sean Payne, a Derby native who recently made waves by winning the local Derby Gong Show.
