Women who made Chatsworth

£85 per person

A journey through the archives.

From Bess of Hardwick onwards, a long line of remarkable women have lived and worked at Chatsworth and the other Devonshire properties – from Duchesses and other family members to housekeepers and governesses. This illustrated tour will provide an opportunity to find out more about these women and their stories as told through items in Chatsworth’s extensive archives.

Begin the day with refreshments in the Cavendish restaurant followed by a tour of the house led by a Chatsworth guide.

Continue the day with an exclusive tour of the Library led by our Librarian and Archivist with the opportunity to see selected pieces from the archive and collection, from Bess of Hardwick’s will, to Duchess Georgiana’s scrapbooks, and letters written by Sarah Paxton, who played a leading role in keeping the gardens and estate running at Chatsworth when her husband Joseph was away.

Enjoy a delectable two-course lunch in the Flying Childers restaurant and the afternoon free for you to explore the house and garden at your leisure.

The price includes lunch, as well as entry to the house and garden on the day.
