The Recovery Quilt

The Recovery Quilt was created by over 50 participants who stitched their personal responses to ‘recovery’. Taking inspiration from the ‘Crimea Quilts’ made by convalescent soldiers, the quilt is made up of hand-stitched textiles using vintage linens and threads. Responding to official war photographer Mark Neville’s Battle Against Stigma project, to raise awareness about Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, the quilt references a history of conflict and recovery, illustrating the participants’ personal journeys and stories.

The project was led by Common Threads, an arts organisation supporting wellbeing through creative practice.
