The Apprehensive Gardener - Part of Derby Book Festival

3rd June 2019 £12

In The Apprehensive Gardener Griselda Kerr has written a practical guide on how to look after your garden plants throughout the year. Based on her own gardening experiences at home in Melbourne, Derbyshire, this is the book she wished she’d had 20 years ago.

After 20 years of gathering gardening knowledge, and testing it out in her garden, she has put together the book she wished she had access to then. No coffee table book this, it is made for constant quick reference: look up the plant in the alphabetical list and find out what action is needed each month. Griselda includes around 800 plants and explains what to do each month: propagate, clip, deadhead or divide, cut right down, feed or mulch: each of these gardening techniques is also explained. You might sometimes need more detailed information, but here is where you begin!
Griselda will talk about why and how the book came about and what challenges it presented.

There will be an opportunity to have a guided tour of Augustus Pugin’s St Mary’s Church after the event.

Book at QUAD.

2:30pm - 4:00pm.
