STEAM Session: The Developing Role of Digital Technology in Education

Join us for the next event in our FREE online ‘STEAM* Sessions’ series, ideal for teachers (Early years foundation stage (EYFS) through to post-16) and educators!

Our first STEAM Session event of the new academic year will focus on the theme of digital technology in education. We’ll first reflect on the current digital divide in access to technology for learners, as a growing children’s rights issue, both in the UK and globally. We’ll then focus on what can be gained from providing access to digital tech and enabling learners to develop digital skills, through exploration of two inspiring case studies – highlighting the benefits to learning establishments as a whole, and to individual learners as future digital technologists.

Joining us in conversation will be guest speakers Anja Nielsen (Senior Policy Advisor at the UK Committee for UNICEF), Greg Hughes (Vice Principal – Learning Technologies and Curriculum, at The de Ferrers Trust) and Chathura Sudharshan (Award-winning digital tech entrepreneur and founder of Chanodil).

What are ‘STEAM Sessions’?

‘STEAM Sessions’ are a FREE series of bi-monthly events, exploring with educators how STEAM learning is able to prepare our children and young people to face future environmental and social challenges in a rapidly changing world.

Each session is a FREE live Continuing Professional Development (CPD) event, featuring conversation with expert guest speakers from national & international STEAM-linked organisations. STEAM sessions are part of the Institute of STEAM, which is a partnership between Derby Museums and Rolls-Royce.

This session will be the first of our new ‘Illuminate’ STEAM sessions:

Illuminate sessions shine a spotlight on a broad theme related to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) learning. We’ll also be hosting ‘Investigate’ sessions, delving a little deeper into a particular STEAM-learning-related issue and considering together how it may relate to your own practice as an educator.
