Quentin Blake has had a number of extended collaborations with writers, but the longest of all has been with John Yeoman. House of Illustration’s 50 Years of Children’s Books exhibition is the first to celebrate this partnership, featuring more than 40 works, including illustrations and books by the two.
Their first book was A Drink of Water in 1960, which launched Quentin Blake’s career in children’s book illustration. The original drawings for this, and 11 other books by the pair, feature in the exhibition. Since then they have worked together on nearly 50 projects. The latest, All The Year Round, was launched by Andersen Press in October 2017 to coincide with the exhibition at House of Illustration, and A Drink of Water was republished by Thames and Hudson in September 2017.
This touring exhibition from The House of Illustration celebrates illustrator Quentin Blake’s long partnership with writer John Yeoman, featuring more than 40 works including illustrations and books by the two. Derby Museums has a range of family activities on offer, inspired by this exhibition over the summer months.
