The Cavendish family have literary connections spanning centuries – as patrons and friends of writers, collectors of literary works and writers themselves. This illustrated tour provides an opportunity to see some of the Devonshire Collection’s literary gems.

Begin the day with refreshments in the Cavendish restaurant followed by a tour of the house led by a Chatsworth guide.

Continue the day with an exclusive tour of the Library led by our Librarian and Archivist with the opportunity to see selected pieces from the archive and collection, from rare early editions of work by medieval and renaissance poets, to publications, manuscripts and letters of writers like Dr Johnson, Jane Austen, Charles Dickens and Charlotte Brontë.

Enjoy a delectable two-course lunch in the Flying Childers restaurant and the afternoon free for you to explore the house and garden at your leisure. 

The price includes lunch in Flying Childers, as well as entry to the house and garden on the day.
