Gaia at Derby Cathedral

22nd September 2022 - 16th October 2022

Derby Cathedral is excited to present Luke Jerram’s Gaia from 22nd September – 16th October 2022.

Gaia is a touring artwork measuring seven metres in diameter and created from 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the Earth’s surface. The artwork provides the unique opportunity to see our planet on this scale, floating in three-dimensions above the nave of the Cathedral.

A specially made surround sound composition by BAFTA award winning composer Dan Jones is played alongside the sculpture.

This spectacular installation stimulates thought over key issues of climate change, creation, and our place on the Earth. The events programme that runs alongside Gaia invites visitors to enjoy wellbeing events, music, and nature walks, and contemplate the themes presented by the artwork.

Gaia is programmed in association with Derby Festé and is kindly sponsored by the University of Derby and Cosy Direct.

Entry will be free with a suggested entry donation of £3 per person. Donations will go towards the care and work of the city’s Cathedral, helping to keep its doors open for all.

Don't miss a host of events taking place during this period.
