Artist Tim Shore explores the legacy of John Flamsteed (1646 –1719), the first Astronomer Royal, in an exhibition that includes animation, photography, prints and books.

Flamsteed lived in Derby and made his astronomical readings using a zero degree line of longitude – a prime meridian – that placed Derby at the centre of space and time. On display at the centre of the exhibition is Flamsteed’s Atlas Coelestis, the great star atlas of 1723, around which Shore’s work rotates, exploring time travel, space and place.

Derby Mean Time is supported by Arts Council England, University of Derby, QUAD and D-Lab.
