Join Haunted Heritage for a ghost hunt at Derby's iconic old Silk Mill building (The Museum of Making). During a 5 hour event you will participate in a series of investigation sessions, led by experienced investigators and have the opportunity to try different techniques and methods used by ghost hunters. This building is full of history and some of those who once worked here life times ago still make their presence known.

Built between 1717 & 1721 for the Lombe’ brothers, Derby’s Silk Mill stands on the site of the world’s first factory beside the river Derwent.

Built in 1721 by George Sorocold and owned by the Lombe brothers. The design of the machines was copied by John Lombe during a period he spent working in Italy within the Italian Silk Industry.

Famous Visitors

The Mill became a popular destination for tourists to visit, with Daniel Defoe visiting in 1742 and Benjamin Franklin in 1771.

In 1722, John Lombe died in mysterious circumstances. It is widely believed that Lombe was poisoned by an Italian as vengeance for stealing their trade secrets!

Does John still live here? or the spectres of children, as young as seven years old would have worked long arduous shifts at the mill.

In 2016, the museum closed and underwent a project to redevelop the building to create a ‘Museum of Making’. It reopened its doors on 21st May 2021
