DERBY BOOK FESTIVAL: MOTHER: AN UNCONVENTIONAL HISTORY

6th June 2019 £7 per ticket

Acclaimed historian Sarah Knott analyses the real experience of motherhood for women across the ages, from the South Carolina field slave to a 1950s suburban housewife, from a royal mistress pregnant with a king’s first son to a 1970s feminist.

Drawing on letters, diaries, court reports and paintings, Knott vividly brings to life the lost stories of ordinary women and the everyday details of carrying and caring for a baby.
