Joseph Wright was born in Derby on 3 September 1734. To mark his birthday, Lucy Bamford, Senior Curator of Fine Art and the Joseph Wright Collection, explores some of the objects and stories that provide insights into Wright’s childhood and chart his journey towards becoming a world-renowned artist.
