Calke Abbey
Description
At Calke Abbey, discover the tales of an eccentric family who amassed a vast collection of hidden treasures. Visit the beautiful, yet faded, walled gardens and explore the orangery, auricula theatre and the kitchen gardens. Escape into the ancient and fragile habitats of Calke Park and its National Nature Reserve.
With peeling paintwork and overgrown courtyards, Calke Abbey tells the story of the dramatic decline of a country house estate. The house and stables are little restored, with many abandoned areas vividly portraying a period in the 20th century when numerous country houses did not survive to tell their story.
Derbyshire’s hauntingly preserved Calke Abbey takes centre stage in Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, doubling as a gritty 1940s setting thanks to its peeling paint and near-untouched interiors. Starring Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby, the production carefully transformed the house and Stableyards into a moody cinematic world - including the now-iconic Shelby walk - before restoring everything back again. Fans can explore filming locations from mid-March, with the film landing in cinemas on 6 March and on Netflix on 20 March. Find out more about Filming at Calke Abbey here.
