When Rob Aitken and his wife bought The Coach House B&B in 2017, they had major plans for development - including the stable-block building in the back garden which used to be the main house for the previous owners.

Rob met up with the Visit Derby Tourism Team when renovations began so that a promotional plan could be put into place. The team works closely with freelance PR consultant, Ian Weightman, so information was drip-fed through to him before a site meeting took place to discover the delights of the finished work in the flesh!

The character of the Victorian house was sympathetically restored with each of the 4 bedrooms decorated a subtle/calming grey. These more conventional style rooms offer visitors excellent value for money with rates starting at £47 per night, B&B.

But it's when you enter the Stable-block that The Coach House literally amazes you!  Three exceptionally unique rooms, each with their own unforgettable style - from monkey lamps to Harris Tweed touches and rhino' lights - all with stunning shower and or bathrooms. Ian simply couldn't believe his eyes and immediately knew which national journalists to contact to plan a visit.

In exchange of a complimentary sleepover and breakfast, top travel writer from The Guardian was the first to arrive. Her feature was published over the Christmas/New Year travel supplement last year and the phone/email enquiries/Social Media responses went CRAZY! Visit Derby set up the visit to include some local attractions and eating venues too to make her visit as enjoyable as possible. This 'free' publicity is worth its weight in gold and has helped to raise Derby's profile as a city break destination.

Since this visit, further journalists have been welcomed to help spread the word and encourage more visitors to Derby. Competitions to win weekend breaks have boosted Visit Derby's bi-monthly e-shots - all excellent profile-raising opportunities that have helped The Coach House to launch into their new B&B life which is flourishing a year on and looking into further expansion to keep up with demand.

"I cannot speak highly enough of the Visit Derby Tourism Team and the support they have given us."
- Rob Aitken, owner of The Coach House B&B.
