Historical novelist and writing tutor Joanne will walk you through the first tentative steps of crafting characters from the past and building the world in which they’ll live and breathe. The prospect of creating a setting that is so different to our own can feel daunting at first, but it’s also an exciting opportunity to add life, detail and meaning to some of the many blank spaces in the historic record. Joanne will share how she gets started with a new novel, what she finds helpful along the way and some pitfalls to avoid.
