What is it all about?
Derby joined Derbyshire County Council and South Derbyshire District Council in a joint twinning arrangement with Toyota City, Japan in 1998.

This followed the building of Toyota Motor Company’s European production facility at Burnaston.

The twinning is intended to promote cultural exchanges between the partners and we have welcomed a number of groups to Derby, including photographers, horticulturalists and musicians. The Mayor of Toyota City was a guest in 2002 as Derby celebrated its Silver Jubilee of City status and the City & County Youth Jazz Orchestra travelled to Japan in April 2005 to perform in World Expo’ 2005 that took place in Aichi Prefecture - the region in which Toyota City is situated.
